EDF Energy becomes the New energy Supplier to TOTO Energy’s customers.

The UK’s gas and electricity market regulator, Ofgem, has picked EDF Energy as the new supplier to 134 000 customers who have been left without known energy suppliers for days.

This announcement was made on Saturday by the Ofgem’s Director of future retail markets, Philippa Pickford, and she said: “I am pleased to announce that we have appointed EDF Energy for the customers of TOTO Energy. Their energy supply will continue as normal, and credit balance will be honoured.”

The announcement is coming days after the former suppliers, TOTO Energy, was stripped of its license to supply.

Toto Energy was stripped off their license to supply after failing to meet the deadline to pay owed taxes. They join the list of over a dozen energy who have ceased trading in the past two years.

With EDF Energy, as the new supplier, the customers can look forward to a reduction in energy bills as they will be offering customers a competitive tariff.

EDF promises to honour all credit balance, including ones owed to new and old customers of the defunct TOTO Energy. All costs involved will be Borne by the company and not the industry or customers.

The Ofgem’s Director of Future Retail Markets also said: “EDF Energy will be in contact with customers over the coming days with further information. Once the transfer has been completed, customers can shop around for a better deal.”

Ofgem also gave assurance that customers will not be charged exit fees if they wish to switch to another supplier.

Ofgem has proposed a new reform to help put checks on the operations of energy suppliers. These checks are aimed to lower the possibility of the future bust from energy suppliers, strengthen the safety net and improve customer service standards.
